History
East
Franklin Elementary was built during 1951 and 1952, consolidating four
small community schools. The building originally had ten classrooms,
a lunchroom, auditorium and administrative office space. In 1956,
four more classrooms were added to the East end of the building. This addition provided a library and expanded the dining space. In
1969, ten new classrooms and a media center were added to the West end
of the original building. This addition resulted from the consolidation
of East Franklin Elementary and Franklin Elementary.
A
bond referendum in 1981 resulted in major renovations costing approximately
one half million dollars. Renovations happened again in 2001.
The construction was completed in January 2002.
Renovations to the existing building began in November of 2007. The renovation plan involves remodeling all classrooms and work areas within the existing building. The office area and Media Center will only receive cosmetic improvements. The gym is being converted into three new classrooms. All work should be completed by the fall of 2008. This still leaves almost one fourth of East Franklin students in portables behind the school.
Renovation Plan
Plans have been completed that will add three kindergarten classrooms and a gym to the current site. This could begin in July 2008 and be completed by spring/summer 2010.
Presently,
East Franklin Elementary serves kindergarten through fifth grade with
an enrollment of 420 students. We were a School of Distinction from 1998-2005. There
are thirty three certified teachers, fourteen teacher assistants, one secretary, one SIMs data manager,
six cafeteria staff, three bus drivers and three custodians assigned
to our school.
We
are proud of our diverse school where everyone is a team player. East Franklin Elementary is a place where everyone is an unique individual
with high self expectations.
